5.8GHz Wireless A/V Sender with IR Extender
- Transmit and receive crisp video and hi-fi stereo, even through walls
- Long transmission range up to 400 feet clear line-of-sight
- 5.8GHz band transmission won't have interference from cordless phones or wireless LANs
Essential Info If you have always wanted to distribute audio and video to a second room but have avoided doing so because of the cost and difficulties surrounding running cables, the easy answer has arrived. The 5.8GHz Wireless A/V Sender with I/R Extender transmits clear audio and visual signals over radio frequency, so there are no wires to run, and since this is the first ever 5.8GHz-band product of its kind, you'll avoid the interference associated with crowded lower-frequency band applications, such as 802.11b wireless LAN, cordless phones, and microwaves. You'll even be able to control your components using your existing remote, since the 5.8GHz Wireless A/V Sender includes an IR extender, transmitting your signals to the receiver in the room with your components.

More Info |
The 5.8GHz Wireless A/V Sender with I/R Extender consists of one transmitter and one receiver. This system transmits vivid video and hi-fi stereo sound wirelessly from a VCR, TV set, DVD player, satellite receiver or cable set-top box to any TV or monitor. It can also be used in conjunction with a camcorder or CCD camera to turn into a wireless security monitoring system. The signal can go up to 400 feet with clear line of sight, and since it uses radio waves, it will even penetrate walls.
To experience wireless video and audio, just connect the transmitter to whatever A/V source you would like to enjoy and connect the receiver to a TV, monitor or speaker in another location. All power supplies and connecting cords are included. Directional antennas minimize multi-path and interference.
Extend these wireless capabilities to monitors in other rooms in your house: 5.8GHz Extra Receivers can be purchased separately.

What’s a bored, snowed-in geek to do on a Sunday AM? Troll the FCC website for new products, of course!
Sony’s got a home wireless AV transmission system (HWS-AV10) in the works. It uses the 2.4 GHz frequency to relay audio, video, and IR remote signals from a component in one room to a TV in another… while likely interfering with your cordless phones and WiFi. The base station includes an IR blaster allowing you to change channels or choose TiVo recordings at a distance. The receiver smartly bundles an external antenna to fine-tune reception.
In the past, I’ve used a few variations of this device with mediocre results. I’ve had better luck using media extenders/servers over WiFi… though they require a larger investment of both time and money. If cash is no object, go whole-hog with Sony’s LocationFree TV and take your screen with you around the house. For basic video, I’d advise just fishing the coax.
Sorry, HD Beat… this puppy’s standard def only.
